Rahul is adamant about decreasing productivity of Parliament: Shirin Irani

New Delhi, July 20: The BJP on Wednesday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, stating that he is keen on lowering the productivity of Parliament as the opposition continues to interrupt proceedings of both Houses in the present Monsoon Session.

Smriti Irani, a union minister, claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s political career has been marred by displays of disrespect for parliamentary customs and practises. She declared that “he is now adamant” about decreasing Parliament’s output.

Rahul never posed a question in the House while serving as a Lok Sabha representative from Amethi between 2004 and 2019, according to Irani. “After he “abandoned” the district (Amethi) and became the MP for Wayanad, his participation in the 2019 winter session was less than 40%. Today he has dedicated himself to ensuring disruption of Parliament,” she stated.

Irani said that Rahul has violated parliamentary traditions and is now ensuring that parliamentary proceedings and discussions do not take place.

She remarked, “He may be politically ineffective, but he shouldn’t dare to consistently stifle Parliament’s production.” In Amethi, Irani had defeated Gandhi in the general elections of 2019. The Union Minister made fun of the Congress leader’s frequent travels abroad by claiming that this has become a source of concern for his own party.

The first two days of the current Monsoon session of Parliament were entirely rained out because opposition members disrupted both Houses’ operations by calling for a discussion of the increase in GST rates, inflation, and other issues. Even today, due to disturbances from the opposing benches, both houses were postponed until 2 p.m.
