A vote for Congress is a vote wasted: TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee

West Bengal, Oct. 24: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday said that voting for Congress is a waste as only the TMC could defeat the BJP.

Speaking at an Assembly bypoll campaign rally in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, the Diamond Harbour MP said, “The big difference between Congress and TMC is that Trinamool has been defeating the BJP for the past few years while Congress has been constantly losing to the BJP. So, voting for Congress is wasting your vote.”

“Voting for the Congress and Left Front would be in no way different from opting for the NOTA (None of the above) button,” he said.

Speaking about the Lakhimpur Kheri violence he said: “A minister’s son has crushed farmers in UP. That’s the state of BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh.” He was referring to the allegations of Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra’s son Ashish mowing down farmers at a protest rally on October 3.

Hitting out at the BJP-ruled Centre for the rising fuel prices, he said, “Even diesel has crossed a century, after petrol and they [BJP] are going gaga over vaccination century!” India crossed the milestone of administering 100 crore vaccine doses on October 21 and the government called for celebrations on the occasion.

“We will dislodge the BJP from Goa and Tripura and replace their misrule with Mamata Banerjee’s good governance. We shall go to each state where democracy is under threat and people’s freedom has been snatched. The entire country has put its hopes on Mamata Banerjee,” he said.

TMC is geared up for the Goa elections slated to be held in February next year. It is also conducting outreach programmes in Tripura, where the Assembly elections are slated to be held in February 2023.

He also took a swipe at Home Minister Amit Shah saying, “He had promised to dole out Rs 2 lakh crore for the development of Sunderbans and carve out a separate district, during his campaigns for assembly polls some months ago. They are still at the helm in Delhi but you won’t hear about any follow-up initiatives from them.”

“Here lies the difference between the BJP and the TMC. No one got Rs 15 lakh in their bank account, as promised by Narendra Modi in 2014. But all our social welfare projects Krishakbandhu, Swastha Sathi, Kanyashree and Lakshmir Bhandar are benefitting crores of people already,” he said.
