However, the Returning Officer of the Election Commission of India has rejected the nomination of an Independent candidate Padmarajan as he has no support from the MLAs,  With this, the election of Singhvi as a member of the Rajya Sabha was unanimous.  Congress Party Vice President Niranjan will take the certificate from the Election Officer on his behalf.

Abhishek Singhvi has been serving the Congress party for a long time.  Since 2001, he has been working as the National Representative of Congress.  He continued as a member of the Rajya Sabha for two terms (2006, 2018).  In the Rajya Sabha elections held in March this year, he contested from Himachal Pradesh and lost to the BJP.  Although some local leaders tried for Rajya Sabha membership from Telangana, Singhvi’s services in national politics were crucial for the Congress, so he was allowed to become the president.  (Maxim News)
