Hyderabad: ACB searches Osmania University after officials caught a senior engineer red handed while taking a bribe from a contractor. The Anti Corruption Bureau conducted searches at the office of the Executive Engineer, Building Division, on Tuesday, December 16. During the operation, ACB officials caught DE Srinivas while accepting illegal money. The case relates to the clearance of pending bills linked to civil works at the university.

According to information shared by ACB DSP Sridhar, a contractor carried out civil works at the OU Maneru Hostel. After completing the work, the contractor applied for bills amounting to Rs. 14 lakhs. However, the process did not move forward. Later, DE Srinivas allegedly demanded a bribe to sanction the bills. The ACB searches Osmania University came after the contractor decided to report the matter.

The official allegedly demanded Rs. 11,000 from the contractor. A week later, the contractor sent Rs. 5,000 through PhonePe. However, the demand did not stop there. DE Srinivas then asked for the remaining Rs. 6,000. At this stage, the contractor approached ACB officials and lodged a complaint. Therefore, the ACB planned a trap to catch the accused in the act.

Meanwhile, acting on ACB instructions, the contractor met DE Srinivas on Tuesday. As the contractor was giving Rs. 6,000, ACB officials conducted a raid. They caught DE Srinivas red handed while accepting the money. The ACB searches Osmania University office were carried out immediately after the trap succeeded. Officials then took the accused into custody for questioning.

Later, ACB officials detained DE Srinivas and interrogated him in connection with the bribery case. Officials noted that he is due to retire in two months. However, the ACB said retirement status does not affect legal action. The investigation will continue based on evidence collected during the raid and questioning.

The case once again highlights issues related to corruption in public offices. ACB officials said they acted swiftly after receiving the complaint.

They also urged citizens to report any such demands without fear. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses. The ACB searches Osmania University remain a significant development in efforts to curb corruption in government institutions.
