Agniveer: Centre Decides To Increase Quota Of Firefighters

Delhi/Hyderabad, Dec 20 (Maxim News): The Union Home Ministry has taken a key decision. The Border Security Force (BSF) has issued a notification increasing the quota for recruitment of constables. It has been stated that the quota for firemen, which was earlier 10 percent, has been increased to 50 percent. It has been revealed that in the first phase, 50 percent of the vacancies reserved for ex-firemen will be recruited and in the second phase, the remaining vacancies will be recruited for non-ex-firemen. It has been stated that in the first phase, recruitment will be made through the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) instead of ex-firemen in a specific category.

It is known that the central government introduced the Agnipath scheme in June 2022. They have to serve as fire fighters for four years. After the end of that period, they are recruited in the central paramilitary forces on the basis of reservation. As part of this process, 10 percent reservation was previously allocated to fire fighters in all the central armed police forces in the constable vacancies

However, in the latest notification released by the Center, the reservation for firefighters has been increased from 10 to 50 percent only in BSF recruitment. According to the current rules, former firefighters are exempted from the physical fitness test. But they will have to pass the written test.  (Maxim News)
