AIMPLB Launches “Lights Off Protest” Against Waqf Act 2025
Hyderabad, April 29: In a bid to strengthen its ongoing campaign under the banner of “Waqf Bachao, Dastoor Bachao,” the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced the next phase of protests, which will include a nationwide “Lights Off Protest.” Scheduled for 9:00 PM on April 30, 2025, the event aims to draw attention to the protection of Waqf properties and uphold the values enshrined in India’s Constitution.
Addressing a press conference, Mufti Omer Abedi, the Program Convenor for AIMPLB in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, outlined the board’s determination to safeguard Muslim personal law and religious rights. He emphasized that the “Lights Off Protest” is a symbolic action to signal the importance of preserving both Waqf assets and constitutional safeguards, which, according to the AIMPLB, are facing increasing threats.
Abedi explained that the protest, set to last only a few minutes, is an appeal to citizens and organizations across the nation to unite in raising awareness of these critical issues. The initiative is part of a broader campaign that aims to mobilize public opinion and government intervention to address growing concerns about the news Waqf Act and the protection of religious freedoms.
The “Waqf Bachao, Dastoor Bachao” movement has already seen a series of protests in its first phase, where participants have rallied to demand greater accountability and reforms in the administration of Waqf, which hold significant religious and social value for the Muslim community in India.
