Tirumala, July 27 (Maxim News): Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam priests closed the Srivari temple this evening at 5pm due to total lunar eclipse.
TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal said the temple will be reopened at 4.15 am tomorrow. He said it was tradition that they will close the temple for six hours before commencement of the eclipse. The priests would reopen the temple at 4.15am with Suprabhatham and perform Shuddhi and Punyavachanam. Later, they will perform Thomalaseva, Kolupu, Panchanga Sravanam, Archana Seva. Sarva Darshanam for devotees will start at 7am on Sunday, he added.
Anil Kumar Singhal said the TTD cancelled Kalyanotsavam, Unjalseva, Arjitha Brahmotsavam, Vasanthotsavam, Sahasradeepalankara Sevas. The temples across the nation were closed at 5pm today in view of lunar eclipse. Badrinath Temple at Uttarakhand, Basara Saraswathi Temple, Veyi Sthambala Gudi in Warangal, Laxmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Yadadri were also closed at 5pm.
However, Srikalahasthishwaralayam was kept open even during the lunar eclipse. It was a tradition that the pontiffs would perform Grahanakala Abhishekams during eclipse. The temple authorities made all arrangements to perform Grahanakala Abhishekam tonight. The temple authorities informed that the priests would start Sankalpa Pooja at 1am and will complete all Abhishekams before 3am. (Maxim News)
