Amaravati is only capital of AP: Rahul

Kurnool, Oct.19 (NSS): Congress supremo Rahul Gandhi today made it clear that Amaravati was the only capital of Andhra Pradesh State.

Rahul Gandhi made these remarks while addressing media persons at Arts & Science College in the city. Speaking on the occasion, he said AP should have only one capital and opined that Amaravati should be its capital. Referring to the decision of the State government to form three State capitals, he termed the decision as completely wrong. Reminding that the Congress party had made promises to the State in AP Reorganisation Act 2014, Gandhi said their party had the responsibility to fulfil the promises made to them. He also reminded that promises like Polavaram irrigation project and special status were also part of the promises made by them. He asked the rulers of the State to focus on the future of the State instead of its bifurcation. He promised to stand by the farmers, who gave their lands for the Amaravati State capital.

Speaking further , Rahul Gandhi alleged that the political parties in the state had made politics into a business . He said that there was a need to protect the interests of the farmers and workers of the State.

Commenting on the attacks on journalists in the State,

Rahul Gandhi termed them as cruel in nature. He promised to complete the Polavaram project after coming to power and added that they would also ensure that all the benefits of the Polavaram project reached the farmers of the State.

Referring to the comments of the party MP and the president’s post candidate Shashi Tharoor that irregularities took place in the just concluded elections, he faulted the comments of Tharoor and added that no irregularity took place in the elections and noted that the elections were held in a transparent manner. He made it clear that no other political party has democracy what the Congress party has in the country.

He also said no political leader expresses his dissent in public except in the Congress party. Commenting on taking support of the ruling YSRCP after the next general elections, he declined to comment on the issue and added that the party president would take a final decision on the issue.

Targeting the BJP, Rahul Gandhi made it clear that the illogical decisions taken by the saffron party were responsible for the crashing of the Indian economy. Commenting on his ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra, he said the Yatra was related to the integrity of the country and added that the Congress party belonged to all castes and people of the country. He said his padayatra was receiving overwhelming response in the State. He said the country should have one GST- One tax instead of so many taxes. (NSS)
