This year’s yatra will be conducted via the two traditional routes—the 48 km Nunwan-Pahalgam track in Anantnag district and the 14 km Baltal track in Ganderbal, known for its steep climb but shorter distance.

The flagged-off batch includes 1,115 women, 31 children, and 16 transgender pilgrims, marking a diverse start to one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimages. Over 3.31 lakh devotees have registered for this year’s yatra, showcasing the spiritual fervor of devotees from across the country.

Robust Security & Medical Facilities

Amid high security alerts, multi-tiered security arrangements have been made along the entire pilgrimage route. Lieutenant Governor Sinha assured pilgrims of a round-the-clock surveillance system through the Integrated Command and Control Centre at Raj Bhavan and the Police Control Room. Additionally, an RFID-based tracking system has been implemented to ensure the safety and real-time tracking of pilgrims.

To address emergency health needs, 100-bed hospitals constructed by ONGC have been set up at Chandanwari and Baltal base camps. Also, new Yatri Niwas and Board Office facilities have been inaugurated in Srinagar, with a similar infrastructure at Baltal set for inauguration on July 4.

Devotees Undeterred by Past Attacks

The spirit of the yatra remains strong despite past security concerns. Chanting “Bum Bum Bhole” and “Har Har Mahadev”, over 4,000 pilgrims embarked on the sacred journey this morning, undeterred by memories of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.

“The enthusiasm is high and the devotion unwavering. The growing number of pilgrims is a message to enemies of peace that India stands united in faith and courage,” said LG Manoj Sinha at the flagging-off ceremony.

He added that efforts to improve infrastructure have doubled since 2022, with the twin yatra routes widened from 6 feet to 12 feet to accommodate the increasing footfall.

As the holy Amarnath Yatra 2025 unfolds, lakhs more are expected to join in the days ahead, seeking divine blessings from Lord Shiva in his ice lingam form, nestled deep in the Himalayas.
