Amit Shah Introduced The National Capital Territory Of Delhi (Amendment) Bill 2023

Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug 1 (Maxim News):  The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill-2023 (GNTC) was introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha today.  A debate on this ordinance will be held in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

While introducing the Bill in the Lok Sabha, Amit Shah said that the Center will have the power to make laws in Delhi and this is in the Constitution.  He said that the Supreme Court has also given a very clear verdict that Parliament can bring any law regarding Delhi State.

Amit Shah asked the speaker to allow the introduction of the Bill saying that all the objections were political.  He introduced the Bill in the House amid loud opposition slogans saying that this bill is against the Constitution.

The Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government has opposed this Bill from the beginning saying it is against the Constitution and the spirit of the Union.  Alleging that this Bill is being brought to curtail the rights of the democratically elected government, the opposition has been gathering support for the defeat of the Bill in the Rajya Sabha for a few days.  Many opposition parties including Congress have already announced that they will support AAP in this regard.

Meanwhile, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has announced its support to the Center on the Delhi Ordinance Bill.  BJD national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sasmit Patra told the media that the Supreme Court has ruled that Parliament has the right to make laws regarding Delhi.  He said that they are also opposing the motion of no confidence brought by the Opposition against the government.  He said that his party has issued a three-line whip to Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs asking all the MPs to attend the meeting during the discussion on these issues.
