Another Crack In INDI Alliance? Shiv Sena (U) To Contest In 23 Seats
Delhi/Hyderabad, Dec 22 (Maxim News): The issue of sharing of seats in the Lok Sabha elections is likely to cause a headache for the “INDI” alliance, especially for the congress party. The announcement made by Uddhav Balasaheb Thackery-led Shiv Sena in Maharashtra on Friday that it will contest 23 seats out of total 48 seats in Maharashtra. Congress and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) are the partner parties in that state. These three parties are continuing in the INDI Alliance.
While the alliances with the partner parties in the respective states are still at the level of discussions, it is giving rise to these doubts. Uddhav’s Shiv Sena has announced that it will contest in 23 seats out of 48 seats in Maharashtra.
In the last Lok Sabha elections, Shiv Sena and BJP contested together in Maharashtra, BJP contested in 25 seats while Shiv Sena contested in 23 seats. BJP won 23 seats while Shiv Sena won 18 seats.
Meanwhile, on the issue of seat sharing, the other participating parties, the Samajwadi Party led by Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh and the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Benerjee in West Bengal, say they will stick to their traditional seats. (Maxim News)
