Supporters stated that his public support remained intact despite his imprisonment. He was widely known for his long service in the education sector and for his active role in Bangladesh politics through the Awami League.

In addition, reports noted that whenever legal relief appeared possible, another case was registered, preventing his release. Consequently, he remained incarcerated continuously for 18 months.

The incident follows another reported custodial death involving a Hindu leader. Recently, Pralaya Chaki, also linked to the Awami League, reportedly died while in police custody.
