Appointment Of New ECs Cannot Be Stayed: Supreme Court

Delhi/Hyderabad, March 15 (Maxim News): The Supreme Court of India on Friday refused to suspend the appointment of Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu as the New Central Election commissioners.

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the exclusion of the Chief Justice of India from the selection committee to fill two vacant commissioner posts in the Election Commission (EC). The petitioners sought to restrain the Center from taking up the appointment of new commissioners under the Chief Election Commissioner and Appointment of Election Commissioners Act- 2023.  It has been revealed that an inquiry will be held next week (March 21).

The Center brought this Act last December. The selection committee included a Union Minister nominated by the Prime Minister instead of the CJI. The opposition opposed this new law. (Maxim News)
