Asaduddin Owaisi Faces Flak For Supporting Congress In Telangana
- Critics call AIMIM chief’s differing stands political hypocrisy
- Social media erupts over videos showing contradictory campaign messages
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi is under fire for what many see as inconsistent political behaviour. The controversy erupted after videos showed him attacking the Congress in Bihar while supporting the same party in the Jubilee Hills by-election in Telangana. The apparent contradiction has sparked a wave of criticism, with netizens and political observers accusing Owaisi of opportunism and double standards.
In Bihar, where Assembly elections are underway, Owaisi was heard calling the Congress a troublemaker and describing it as the RSS’s puppet. However, another video from Telangana revealed him campaigning in favour of the Congress candidate in the Jubilee Hills bypoll. The contrasting messages have triggered heated debate across social media, with many calling it an example of political convenience designed to maintain relevance across States.
Hyderabad Youth Courage founder Salman Khan was among the first to criticise Owaisi’s stance publicly. Condemning what he called “India’s biggest political stunt,” he questioned the AIMIM leader’s changing tone. “Bihar main Congress ko gaaliyan aur Telangana main jisko RSS ka Tillu kahte the, usi Congress ko samarthan. Kya yahi Muslim leadership hai?” he asked, accusing Owaisi of confusing voters who look up to him for decisive representation.
Political analysts say Owaisi’s balancing act may backfire in Telangana, where AIMIM has built its core identity as an independent voice for minorities. “Aligning with the Congress in Jubilee Hills could alienate a section of his traditional base,” they observed, noting that the Congress has long been viewed with scepticism among some sections of AIMIM’s support base.
As campaigning gains momentum ahead of the Jubilee Hills by-election, Owaisi’s contrasting rhetoric has reignited questions about AIMIM’s long-term strategy. Whether the party’s attempt to align tactically with different political forces across States will strengthen or weaken its credibility remains to be seen.
