Asaduddin Owaisi Offers Condolences to Family of IPS Y Puran Kumar
- Dalit discrimination alleged; swift action sought
- Suspensions urged to protect integrity of probe
Hyderabad, Oct 13 (Maxim News): AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar died by suicide due to harassment and caste-based discrimination.
In a post, he said the officer “named many of his seniors in his ‘final note.’”
He offered condolences to the family and added, “My condolences to his family, especially his spouse.” He framed the episode as a stark signal about systemic barriers.
Owaisi called the case “unfortunate proof that Dalits are not allowed to progress; even if they become IPS officers.” He linked the tragedy to wider concerns about workplace discrimination and accountability within institutions. Therefore, he demanded an urgent and credible investigation. He stressed that symbolic gestures would not suffice and pressed for concrete action.
Asaduddin Owaisi | Lip-service won’t do
“Everything must be done to swiftly bring the accused to justice. Lip-service won’t do,” Owaisi said. He urged “interim confidence measures – including suspensions -” to ensure the integrity of the probe.
Meanwhile, he emphasized that the investigation must inspire confidence among the public and the officer’s family. Then, he signaled that timely steps would shape trust in the process.
The remarks place immediate focus on two fronts. First, a time-bound, transparent probe into the allegations cited in the purported “final note.” Second, measures to prevent interference or intimidation during the inquiry.
Also, the statements aim to push authorities toward accountability without delay. Later, procedural updates are likely to be watched closely.
Owaisi’s comments add political attention to the case. They also highlight the need to address caste-based discrimination claims within law enforcement.
