Hyderabad: Atrocity in Bangladesh has once again come into focus after a 23 year old Hindu youth was burned alive in Narsingdi district. The incident has triggered strong local outrage and renewed concerns over attacks on minorities. The victim, identified as Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik, died after a fire broke out at the garage where he worked. His family has alleged that the killing was premeditated.
According to the information available, Chanchal had been working at a garage near the Narsingdi Police Lines for the past few years. He originally hailed from Comilla district. He was also the sole breadwinner of his family. However, on Friday night, while he was sleeping inside the garage, unknown assailants allegedly poured petrol on the shutter from outside and then set it on fire. Within minutes, the flames spread across the entire garage.
Meanwhile, Chanchal remained trapped inside the burning structure. He could not escape as the fire intensified rapidly. Local residents noticed the blaze and alerted the fire brigade. Firefighters reached the spot and worked for nearly an hour to bring the fire under control. However, by the time the fire was doused, Chanchal’s body was completely burnt and found lying lifeless inside the garage.
Atrocity in Bangladesh has drawn attention in recent months due to a series of violent incidents against minorities. In December, a man named Deepu Chandra Das was beaten to death by mobs, and his body was later set on fire. Also, last week, a businessman identified as Liton Chandra Das was killed in a mob attack. Chanchal’s death has further intensified fears among minority communities.
Local Hindu leaders have strongly condemned the latest atrocity. They have demanded that the government immediately identify those responsible and punish them severely. They have also called for proper protection for minorities. Meanwhile, police officials have collected CCTV footage from the area and launched an investigation into the incident. (Maxim News)
