Hyderabad, August 4: A 35-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly hacked to death in broad daylight at Singareni Colony in Saidabad on Tuesday in a shocking incident reportedly triggered by a financial dispute.
The deceased has been identified as Ameer, while the accused, Suman, also an auto driver and the victim’s neighbour, is currently absconding.
According to police, an argument between the two men allegedly escalated into a violent attack. The accused allegedly assaulted Ameer with a sickle in full public view.
Ameer sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to Osmania General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
A video of the incident circulating on social media reportedly shows the victim lying on the road with severe injuries while the attacker continues the assault. A crowd is seen gathered nearby, but no one intervenes during the attack.
Police have not commented on the authenticity of the video.
Yakutpura MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj, who visited the area, expressed concern over the incident and called for a speedy investigation.
Describing the murder as “barbaric,” he said the victim is survived by eight children and questioned who would now support the family.
The Saidabad Police have registered a case and launched a search to trace and arrest the accused. Investigators are examining the circumstances leading to the attack and verifying the motive behind the crime.
