Ayyappa Swamy Issue Sparks Protests, Swamis Storm DGP Office In Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Nov. 27 (Maxim News): Hindu groups across Telangana condemned the memo issued to Kanchanbagh SI Krishnakanth for wearing the Ayyappa mala. They said the action violated faith rights. They launched a state wide protest that gained swift momentum.

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha workers joined Ayyappa devotees in a march towards the DGP office.

They demanded that officials withdraw the memo without conditions. They said the order hurt religious sentiments. They also said the department must clarify its rules.

Large groups of Ayyappa devotees reached the DGP office by noon. They arrived in numbers that surprised city officials. Police set tight security at all entry points. They placed barricades. They diverted traffic to manage crowds. Even then, brief tension surfaced when police blocked BJYM workers and devotees at the main gate.

Protesters questioned the objection to the mala. They said the police uniform allowed space for faith expressions. They stated that Telangana police rules needed revisions.
