Bathukamma Kunta Revived, Set for Festive Celebrations In Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Once choked by encroachments, rubble, and weeds, Bathukamma Kunta has undergone a remarkable transformation into a scenic water body. The rejuvenated lake is now set to become the centerpiece of the Bathukamma celebrations on September 25.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will take part in the festivities and formally dedicate the restored lake to the people of Hyderabad in a vibrant, festive atmosphere.
On Tuesday, Advisor to the CM Vem Narender Reddy and Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi inspected the site and reviewed the ongoing arrangements. They were briefed by HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, and HMWS&SB Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy. Narender Reddy emphasized that the event should bring national recognition to Bathukamma Kunta.
Former Rajya Sabha member and senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao hailed the revival, calling it a “transformation from an eyesore filled with debris and weeds into a beautiful lake.” He credited HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath for pursuing the project with mission-like dedication.

‘A Proud Moment for Hyderabad’
Mayor Vijayalaxmi noted that the chief minister had entrusted HYDRAA with the rejuvenation task, executed in coordination with the revenue, irrigation, and GHMC departments. She appealed to citizens to actively participate in the Bathukamma celebrations, calling the occasion “a proud moment for the city.”
Bathukamma Kunta is the first of six lakes taken up under the initial phase of the lake restoration initiative to be fully rejuvenated. Leaders and officials expressed hope that the celebrations will inspire further public support for upcoming lake revival projects.
With the transformed lake already attracting national attention, this year’s Bathukamma festivities are expected to showcase Hyderabad’s commitment to cultural pride and environmental renewal.
