The Police Directorate acted after concerns surfaced about possible law and order issues once the draft list becomes public. The directive highlights the need for early preparation to handle any tension that may arise. Officials noted that the draft list could trigger unrest if voters find errors or unexpected deletions. Therefore, police units received alerts to stay prepared.

Political concerns also added pressure to the security preparations. At a recent rally, a leader said, “After the draft list is published, there will be terrible chaos. I can realise this now. The booth level officers are struggling to upload the enumeration forms on the BLO app because of poor internet connectivity. Errors occur often while uploading. I have been told that Artificial Intelligence is being used in the SIR process, and this is being done to replace genuine voters with false ones.” Her comments added to public anxiety over the revision process.

Meanwhile, a state police source said the Police Directorate shares the concern that widespread tension may occur if large numbers of genuine voters find their names missing. The official said, “The police stations have been alerted in advance to take necessary precautions to resist any possible deterioration in the law and order situation following the publication of the draft voters’ list on December 9.” The statement reflects the seriousness with which officials are approaching the potential fallout.

The SIR process is critical for ensuring accurate voter records. However, repeated technical issues and allegations of errors have increased scrutiny. As the draft list date approaches, authorities aim to manage both public response and on ground challenges. The strengthened security plan is expected to help maintain order during the sensitive period.
