Bhatti Vikramarka celebrates Ugadi with Tribal farmers in Kommaram Bhim Dist

Hyderabad March 22: Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka celebrated the Telugu New Year, Ugadi, with tribal farmers in a village in Konmmaram Bhim Asifabad District.

He was in Balemudi village of Kerameri Mandal as part of the ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo’ Yatra People’s March which entered the 7th Day on Wednesday.

During the celebration, Bhatti Vikramarka congratulated the locals and farmers and expressed his happiness to be amongst them on the auspicious day of Ugadi. He mentioned that festivals like these were an essential part of people’s daily lives, and Ugadi marks the first day of the Telugu New Year. The CLP leader also noted that special puja is performed, and special dishes are made as part of the Ugadi celebrations.

The CLP leader participated in the Cattle Puja and other activities of Ugadi in the fields of a local farmer. He further participated in the program of cutting small bushes found in the field and plowing the land (Nagar) to start agricultural work on Ugadi day.

Speaking to the media later, Bhatti Vikramarka said that he celebrated Ugadi with a farmer Morle Venkat Rao, his wife Vasanta, and their children Pandurang and Tara. According to the tradition in the village, the dishes prepared on Ugadi day are first fed to the cattle, and agricultural work in the field starts on the same day after performing pooja.

Bhatti Vikramarka conveyed his best wishes to all the people of the state and Telugu people living all over the world on the occasion of Ugadi. He hoped that this New Year would bring prosperity to everyone’s lives.

The CLP leader recalled that in the villages of Adilabad Joint District Agency, hundreds of people were losing their lives every year due to drinking contaminated water, leading to diarrhea and dysentery. Despite numerous media reports highlighting the dire situation, the authorities remained complacent until a comprehensive study conducted by Premsagar Rao, a member of the Legislative Council elected from the local bodies, shed light on the root cause of the issue: the consumption of contaminated water.

“Upon receiving the study’s report, Premsagar Rao met with the then Chief Minister late Dr. YS Rajasekhar Reddy and brought the issue to his attention. Being a humane person, Rajashekhara Reddy immediately instructed the Chief Secretary, Subrahmanyam, to prepare an estimate to provide a purified fresh water scheme. The then Principal Secretary Chitra Ramachandran and RWS Minister Vishwarup gave the green signal for the project, as per Rajashekhara Reddy’s orders. On July 19, 2009, Reddy laid the foundation stone for the purified fresh water scheme to be provided to 476 villages in the Asifabad constituency, using 0.5 TMC water from the Komaram Bheem project. This decision proved to be a historic one that improved the health condition of the tribals for hundreds of years,” Bhatti Vikarmarka recalled.

Further, the CLP leader recalled that in another momentous event, Dr. YS Rajasekhar Reddy selected Jheri village in Kerimeri Mandal to distribute land titles to the tribals through the Wildlife Rights Act of 2006, which was brought under the leadership of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. The act gave innocent tribal children born in the forest and raised there the right to land, enabling them to live in the forest with self-respect. Land titles were distributed for lakhs of acres from Jheri village on the same day. “This was a historic moment in the long history of distributing land titles to the children of the forest, as it changed the lives of thousands of tribal children who gained rights from this village,” he said.

“This is a village that has changed the lives of thousands of tribal children. It is a pleasure to celebrate the Ugadi festival in this village, which was the venue for those two historic events, and remember Congress president Sonia Gandhi and late Chief Minister Dr. YS Rajasekhar Reddy. As part of the Haath Se Haath Jodo Yatra, I feel fortunate that my padayatra reached this village on the day of the Ugadi festival and I celebrated the Ugadi festival with the people here,” Bhatti Vikarmarka said.
