Bison Division Wins Southern Command Volleyball Championship

Secunderabad: 54 Infantry Division (Bison Division) wins Southern Command volleyball Championship 2023-24 with a set score of 3:1 (25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 26-24) in a competitively concluded finals between 54 Infantry Division and 12 Rapid Division.

Southern Command Volleyball Championship for the Year 2023-24 commenced at Eagle Indoor Volleyball Stadium, 1 EME Centre, Secunderabad on 28 Mar 2023. Ten Teams of Southern Command participated in this championship.

A total of 24 matches were conducted from 28 Mar to 01 Apr 2023 on a league cum knock-out basis. The Championship aimed to inculcate competitive spirit and sportsmanship amongst Army personnel and to select the Command team for a further selection of the Indian Army volleyball team.

The Army volleyball node was established at 1 EME Centre in the year 2003. Since then responsibility for training and maintenance of the Indian Army Volleyball Services team is with 1 EME Centre and also hosted many events. The tournaments witnessed many stellar matches and individual performances where many teams contested in high spirits.

Major General Rakesh Manocha, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding, Headquarters Telangana Andhra Sub Area, Brigadier S K Singh, Sena Medal, Deputy General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division, Commandants of Centres and many other dignitaries graced the closing ceremony held on 1st April at Eagle Indoor Volleyball Stadium. Major General Rakesh Manocha presented the winner’s trophy to the 54 Infantry Division and felicitated the players of both teams. The General Officer complimented all the participants and 1 EME Centre for the excellent conduct of the event.

Brigadier Suresh G, Commandant, 1 EME Centre briefed the media about various initiatives being taken to augment the infrastructure for volleyball coaching of the Indian Army team including additional courts with the support of the Army Sports Control Board and Southern Command.
