BJP and BRS criticism on Congress Govt is ridiculous: Uttam

Hyderabad, April 21: Civil Supplies and Irrigation Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has criticised the leaders of the BRS and BJP, who governed for a decade, for questioning the performance of the Congress government in Telangana, which has not even completed five months.

He was addressing a meeting in his Huzurnagar constituency on Sunday in support of Congress candidate K. Raghuveer Reddy for the Nalgonda Lok Sabha seat. The meeting was attended by former Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy, Kodad MLA N Padmavathi, Miryalguda MLA Bathula Laxma Reddy, DCC President Shankar Naik and other senior leaders, hundreds of Congress supporters and leaders from the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI (M).

Addressing the meeting, Uttam Kumar Reddy accused the BJP and BRS of mismanaging the country during their nearly 10-year rule, leading to the deterioration of the economy, agriculture, public health, infrastructure, and other sectors, particularly Telangana. He claimed that the BJP government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inflicted significant damage to the economy through policies such as demonetisation, faulty GST, and other economic blunders. He alleged that PM Modi focused more on managing headlines to benefit the BJP than on managing the country’s economy. He said that Modi used Hindu-Muslim rhetoric to distract the public and suppressed dissenting voices by deploying central agencies like the CBI and ED against them.

“The BJP government also neglected Telangana and failed to fulfill promises made by the previous Congress-led UPA government in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. Just imagine the kind of growth Telangana could have achieved in the past ten years if the central government had kept its promises to build a Railway Coach Factory in Kazipet, a steel plant in Bayyaram, and the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR). Telangana might have been the first state to achieve zero unemployment. Instead, the Modi government betrayed Telangana by cancelling the ITIR and redirecting major projects to other states,” he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Prime Minister Modi does not respect Telangana and has even questioned the process of its formation on multiple occasions. “The BJP has no moral right to seek votes because it has done nothing for Telangana in the last ten years,” he said. “In reality, the Modi government did nothing for anyone in the country except for a select few industrialists. People are still waiting for the Rs 15 lakh that Modi promised during the 2014 elections. Jobless youth did not get the promised two crore jobs every year. Farmers’ incomes did not double by 2022 as promised – instead, their input costs and debts have doubled over the last ten years. The Modi government could not bring a smile to a single face during the past ten years,” he added.

Likewise, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that BRS President and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao needs to realise that he is no longer in a position to challenge the Congress party. He stated, “KCR might have orchestrated the defection of 4 MPs, 25 MLAs, and 18 MLCs during his first term, and an additional 12 MLAs during his second term. However, those days are over. After being rejected by the people in the Assembly elections, KCR is now stuck in a deep swamp. The more he struggles to escape, the deeper he’ll sink. Instead of causing trouble for the Congress government in Telangana, KCR should focus on keeping his party together and act like a responsible opposition leader.”

“Before questioning the Congress party’s four-month governance, KCR must present his report card for the last ten years,” he stated. “The previous BRS government caused significant damage to agriculture by undermining the irrigation sector. Thousands of crores of rupees were misappropriated under the guise of project re-designing. Large loans were borrowed at high-interest rates, creating a debt burden that would take at least two generations to repay. Despite all this spending, farmers are left not with adequate water for irrigation but with a damaged and dysfunctional Kaleshwaram project and incomplete structures from other pending irrigation projects.”

“Rather than acknowledging his mistakes and taking responsibility for the mess he created over the past decade,” he continued, “KCR is attempting to shift the blame onto the five-month-old Congress government, which has inherited a broken and devastated state.”

Uttam Kumar Reddy remarked that the Congress party does not engage in cheap political stunts like the BJP or BRS. “The Congress government has a clear agenda for development and better governance. We made six guarantees to the people during the Assembly elections, and we’ve already implemented five of them within the first 100 days of our term. The remaining promises will be fulfilled after the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections is lifted,” he said.

He said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi released the Congress Nyay Patra, the national manifesto, which contains 25 significant guarantees, at a public meeting in Tukkuguda on April 6. “All those guarantees will be fulfilled with total conviction and determination,” he added.

Uttam Kumar Reddy asserted that the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) is poised to form the next government at the Centre, with Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister. He said the response from the first phase of polling suggests a shift toward the Congress party and its allies, signalling the end of the BJP’s dictatorial rule. He noted that people across the country have come together to restore democracy, which he claimed had been oppressed by the Modi government.

Similarly, he predicted that the Congress party in Telangana would meet its target of winning at least 15 out of 17 Lok Sabha seats, emphasising that public sentiment across all sections of society was turning in favour of the Congress party. Regarding KCR’s proposed bus yatra, he said the BRS chief should tour the state to apologise for betraying the interests and neglecting the welfare of the people during his 10-year tenure as Chief Minister. “KCR rarely stepped out of Pragathi Bhavan and his farmhouse in the last ten years. By ousting him and electing a Congress government, the people forced KCR to get back on the road. Soon, they might even retire him from politics, sending him back to his farmhouse,” he remarked.Uttam Kumar Reddy reiterated that Congress candidate Raghuveer Reddy would win the Nalgonda seat with a record-breaking majority.
