BRS Govt betraying jobless youth by denying unemployment allowance: Congress
Hyderabad, July 25: The Congress party on Tuesday accused the BRS Govt of betraying the jobless youth by denying them the promised Unemployment Allowance while offering a meagre Rs 1 lakh loan in its place.
Speaking at a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, TPCC Spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin said that each unemployed individual is owed a staggering Rs 1.65 lakh in allowances, yet the government’s empty pledges have left them feeling cheated and disillusioned. “The promised allowance, meant to support the jobless youth, has become a distant dream. Instead, BRS leaders are conveniently shifting their focus to a seemingly attractive offer of Rs 1 lakh loan,” he said.
Nizamuddin highlighted that while the loan offer might appear appealing at first glance, it pales in comparison to the much-needed financial assistance that the jobless youth were promised. He said that each jobless person should rightfully receive a total of Rs. 1.65 lakh (Rs. 3,016 x 55 months) under the Unemployment Allowance scheme.
Instead of making this payment, the BRS Govt is trying to distract all communities with promises of loans, such as Dalit Bandhu and loans for BCs and minorities. “These tactics are meant to mislead and deceive the very citizens they are supposed to serve,” he said.
The TPCC Spokesperson stated that the BRS Govt has done nothing to address the issue of unemployment among the youth in the last nine years. He said that BRS leaders are attempting to deceive Dalit, Tribal, Backward Class (BC), and minority youth by offering loans as a means to gain their support. He referred to the recent announcement of providing Rs 1 lakh financial assistance to the minority youth, saying that the BRS Govt has deceived other communities in a similar manner in the name of Dalit Bandhu and BC Bandhu while completely neglecting the Tribals.
Nizamuddin said that the Dalit Bandhu scheme was introduced in 2021 to provide financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each to SC families. However, he said that not even 17,000 out of nearly 17 lakh SC families have received any assistance.
Similarly, he said that the promise of loans for BCs proved to be a deception. He said that the BRS Govt received more than 9 lakh loan applications from BCs in the last nine years, but none of them was granted loans. Instead, the government sought fresh applications and allocated only Rs. 500 crore for the scheme, despite needing Rs. 5,288.62 Crore.
Nizamuddin said that minorities have also been cheated by the government’s promises of providing Rs 1 lakh loans. He said that the KCR Govt received loan applications from 1.54 lakh jobless minority youth in its first tenure but did not provide any financial assistance. Recently, when fresh applications were called, more than 2.20 lakh jobless youth applied for Rs. 1 lakh assistance. None of these applications were even processed, he said.”The government’s initial promise, an Unemployment Allowance of Rs. 3,016 per month, could ease their financial burdens and provide nearly 40 lakh jobless youth with the much-needed support during these challenging times,” he said while demanding the BRS Govt to release the due amount of Rs. 1.65 lakh to all eligible beneficiaries rather than making new promises in view of upcoming Assembly elections.
