BRS Govt inflated figures to show high growth rate: Congress
Hyderabad: AICC Programme Implementation Committee Chairman A. Maheshwar Reddy accused the BRS Government of manipulating revenue figures to show a high growth rate.
He also slammed Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for not fulfilling any of the promises made to the people in 2014 and 2018. He alleged that CM KCR was trying to cover up his failure to fulfill promises by making false claims of development.
Speaking at a corner meeting at Mamada Mandal Centre Bus Stand in Nirmal district on the fourth day of the ‘Haat Se Haath Jodo’ Telangana Congress Poru Yatra from Koritikal village on Monday, Maheshwar Reddy said that the Congress party had so far released four chargesheets exposing the failures of the BRS Government. However, he said that the BRS Government did not respond to a single chargesheet.
“The formation of Telangana brought high hopes for people, but eight years later, no significant change has been observed in the lives of the poor, farmers, women, or youth. Despite KCR’s promises of increasing reservation for STs and Muslims to 12%, free education from KG to PG, crop loan waiver up to Rs. 1 lakh, 3 acres of land for poor Dalit families, and a monthly allowance of Rs. 3,016 for unemployed youth, among other things, none of these promises have been fulfilled,” he said.
The BRS Govt has left no section of society satisfied, and everyone is waiting for the next election to elect the Congress Govt, he said.
Maheshwar Reddy accused Minister Indrarkaran Reddy of neglecting development in the Nirmal constituency, despite holding several positions in the past. Despite being in charge of the Housing portfolio, he failed to construct homes for poor families in Nirmal. Instead, he became known as the ‘Qabza Mantri’ for encroaching lands. Maheshwar Reddy also condemned the police for imposing heavy fines on people under the pretext of traffic violations.
He urged the people to support the Congress party to bring back the Indiramma Rajyam era where farmers, youth, weaker sections, and everyone else were happy.
“Telangana has accumulated debts of over Rs. 5 lakh crore. The State Government is not in a position to pay salaries to staff on time. There is no money left in the State’s exchequer to spend on any welfare scheme. Instead of admitting the reality and finding a solution, Minister K. Tarakarama Rao has recently issued a statement claiming that the Per Capita Income of Telangana has registered a 155% growth and the increase was Rs. 1.24 lakh in 2014-15 to Rs. 3.17 lakh in 2022-23. This claim is completely ridiculous and does not match reality,” he said.
Maheshwar Reddy said that almost 80% of the population in Telangana was poor. “Nearly 45 lakh people are surviving on a monthly pension of Rs 2,000, and over 40 lakh youth, including 25 lahks qualified youth, are jobless. Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar has given a statement in the Assembly in the last budget session that the Central Government has recognized around 1.9 crore people as poor and providing ration while the State Government’s ration cards cover around 95 lakh people. None of them has an annual income of over Rs 3 lakh. In this situation, how could the State’s Per Capita Income be Rs. 3.17 lakh?” he asked.
Maheshwar Reddy said that the figures for GSDP growth of 162% in the last eight years were also highly inflated. He alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao was showing loans as revenues to show inflated growth figures. He said that development could not be achieved by fudging the figures but by accepting reality. He said that the Congress cadre was visiting all households to expose the hollowness of the claims of development being made by the KCR Government.
He said that the Telangana Congress Poru Yatra had been receiving an overwhelming response from all sections of society. He said that the BJP Government at the Centre and the BRS Government in Telangana had been cheating the people since 2014. Calling BJP the ‘Bhrasht Jumla Party’ and BRS as ‘Bhandipotla Rastra Samithi,’ he said that their dictatorial and anti-people regime would soon end, and Congress would return to power both in Telangana and at the Centre.
