Hyderabad, Oct 23: The Telangana cabinet will meet on Thursday at 3 PM at the Secretariat under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to deliberate key items, including local body elections and BC reservations.
Ministers are expected to discuss the officials’ committee report on the High Court and Supreme Court orders related to BC reservations and decide the next steps.
Therefore, many expect clarity that could end uncertainty around local body poll conduct.
Political circles indicate the cabinet may consider going to elections under the earlier framework if required.
However, all eyes are on whether the government will attempt to proceed with the targeted reservation framework or adopt an interim approach to avoid further delays.
Meanwhile, widespread interest surrounds the meeting’s outcome given the administrative and political implications in municipalities and panchayats.
The cabinet is also likely to approve an ordinance to scrap the two-child condition for candidates in local bodies.
This change, if cleared, would remove the disqualification barrier for aspirants with more than two children. Then, the measure would be sent forward through the standard approval route.
The move has been discussed in the context of widening the field of eligible candidates and standardizing norms with contemporary realities.
Apart from elections and reservations, the agenda is expected to cover major irrigation and infrastructure items.
Kaleshwaram project-related matters, SLBC revival, and SRSP Phase-II works are understood to be up for discussion.
Also on the table is a possible key decision regarding the Rythu Bharosa scheme. Therefore, sectoral stakeholders anticipate updates on funding, timelines, and execution pathways attached to these projects and schemes.
The meeting has drawn strong public and political attention because it could settle the course for local body polls and associated reservation architecture.
Once decisions are taken, departments will align notifications, schedules, and compliance steps. Later, detailed operational guidelines are likely to follow for field implementation.
Then, parties and candidates can prepare with greater certainty for the electoral calendar and eligibility conditions.
