Hyderabad: Unidentified miscreants allegedly broke open the hundi (donation box) at the Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy (Mallanna) Temple in Ibrahimpatnam, Ranga Reddy district, and decamped with around ₹50,000 in cash, police said.
The theft took place at the temple located along the Sagar Bypass Road in Ibrahimpatnam. Local residents who arrived at the temple on Friday morning noticed that the hundi had been broken open and immediately alerted the police.
Police reached the spot, collected preliminary evidence, and launched an investigation to identify the accused. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the theft, and further details are awaited.
Locals Seek Better Temple Security
Residents said this was not the first such incident at the temple, alleging that a theft attempt had occurred there in the past as well. They expressed concern over the lack of adequate security measures despite earlier incidents.
Devotees and villagers have urged the authorities to strengthen security at temples by increasing night patrols and installing CCTV cameras to prevent similar thefts in the future.
Police are continuing their investigation to trace the culprits and ascertain the exact amount of cash stolen from the hundi.
