Center Increases Wages Under MGNREGS To Rs. 272 Per Day For Telugu States

Delhi/Hyderabad: The Central government has finalized the daily wages to be paid this year for the workers under MGNREGS (Employment Guarantee Scheme workers) to Rs. 272 per day in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

A gazette notification has been released for finalizing all the states across the country. While Rs. 272 has been finalized for Telangana, Rs. 272 has also been fixed for Andhra Pradesh. As of April last year, the daily wage paid to the labourers in Telangana was Rs. 257 and it was increased by another Rs. 15.

While the highest rate was Rs. 357 in Haryana, the lowest rate was Rs. 221 in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The Center has taken this decision by making several amendments to the Panchayat Raj Act finalized in 2013. The Central government said in the order that these new rates will come into effect today.
