The decision was taken during the cabinet meeting held in Delhi today under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With this approval, nearly one crore central government employees and pensioners will directly benefit from the enhanced allowance.

The revised rates of DA and DR will come into effect from July 1. This means that employees will receive the hike with arrears calculated from the beginning of the second half of the year. According to official details, the increase will put an additional financial burden of ₹10,084 crore on the central exchequer.

Officials have noted that this step is intended to support staff and retirees in managing rising living costs. Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief are key components of government salaries and pensions, adjusted periodically to offset inflation.

The timing of the announcement, coinciding with major festivals such as Dussehra and Diwali, is seen as a positive move to provide financial relief during a season of increased household expenditure. While employees had been anticipating the revision, today’s decision brought clarity and assurance to many awaiting the update.
