Hyderabad: The Centre has blocked 3,718 mobile applications, including fraudulent loan apps, to curb cybercrime and protect citizens from online fraud, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) informed the Lok Sabha.
The action was taken through the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) up to June 30, 2026. The government has also blocked more than 15.75 lakh SIM cards and 5.77 lakh IMEIs linked to suspected cybercrime activities.
Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar provided the details in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
According to the Minister, the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS) has helped prevent the loss of more than Rs 11,158 crore.
The amount was saved across more than 32.80 lakh complaints received through the system up to June 30, 2026.
Centre Steps Up Cyber Fraud Crackdown
The I4C has also created a Suspect Registry of cybercriminal identifiers in coordination with banks and financial institutions.
More than 30.48 lakh suspect identifiers received from banks have been shared with participating entities. The system has also identified 32.08 lakh Layer 1 mule accounts.
The Minister said transactions worth Rs 25,698 crore were declined through the Suspect Registry up to June 30, 2026.
The MHA has also issued a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure for handling cybercrime complaints through the National Cyber Reporting Platform (NCRP) and CFCFRMS.
The framework covers complaint processing, coordination with banks, grievance redressal, removal of lien markings and restoration of defrauded funds.
The Money Restoration Module and Grievance Redressal Module became operational in April 2026 to speed up the recovery of defrauded money and address complaints related to frozen accounts.
The government has also intensified cyber safety awareness through SMS and caller tune campaigns, social media outreach, television and radio campaigns, school programmes and public awareness initiatives.
The I4C operates the National Cyber Reporting Platform, which allows citizens to report cybercrime, including crimes targeting women and children.
The government has also launched the Sahyog portal to facilitate faster action against unlawful online content by enabling notices to technology intermediaries under the Information Technology Act.
