CM KCR announces Rs 1,000 crore to protect Bhadrachalam

Hyderabad, July 17: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao announced the funding of Rs 1,000 crore to begin construction on permanent flood protection for Bhadrachalam town. The government will start building housing complexes for residents of flood-prone districts, build an embankment surrounding the Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy Temple, and also start fixing the embankment that leads to Burgampadu.

Additionally, he provided financial aid of Rs 10,000 and 20 kg of rice for the people in Bhadrachalam devastated by the floods.

Inspecting the flood-affected areas in and around Bhadrachalam on Sunday, Chandrashekhar Rao told the media that steps will be taken to permanently secure the town from flooding. In order to find the necessary land at a higher elevation to build new residential colonies for the flood victims, district officials were given this instruction. People who currently reside in flood-prone locations along embankments will be relocated to the newly constructed residential colonies.

The Chief Minister further declared that steps will be done to permanently protect the Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple in Bhadrachalam. After the water subsides and normalcy returns, he promised to return to the temple town to examine and begin development projects, including safeguards for Sitarama Parnashala from flooding on the banks of the Godavari River.

The Chief Minister visited Bhadrachalam town and spoke with flood victims while reviewing the flood-affected areas in the former Khammam district.
