CMO | Hyderabad, July 22: The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has reportedly declined permission for a senior IAS officer in the Telangana Education Department to undertake another foreign tour, according to sources.
The decision is said to have been taken amid concerns over the officer’s frequent overseas visits and their impact on the department’s day to day administration.
Sources said the officer, who has participated in several international study tours since assuming charge, sought approval to visit Japan later this month as part of an official delegation.
However, the CMO reportedly withheld clearance for the officer while approving the remaining members of the delegation.
CMO | Frequent Overseas Visits Under Scrutiny
The IAS officer is considered a key official in the Education Department and has reportedly represented the state in multiple international programmes. Secretariat sources claim the officer has become well known for regularly participating in foreign study tours, whether sponsored by the government or through external invitations.
The Telangana Government has been focusing on transforming the state’s education system by adopting global best practices. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to study education models followed by leading countries and explore reforms that can be implemented in Telangana.
As part of this initiative, official delegations recently visited Finland, Switzerland, and Germany to examine their education systems. The officer was reportedly a member of both the Switzerland and Germany delegations.
According to sources, the Education Department recently submitted a proposal seeking approval for a study visit to Japan, with the same officer’s name included in the list. After reviewing the proposal, the CMO reportedly informed the Chief Minister that the officer had already participated in consecutive foreign visits.
Sources said the Chief Minister then directed officials to exclude the officer from the Japan delegation to ensure regular administrative work in the department does not suffer. The remaining officials, including Vice Chancellors of universities, have reportedly received approval for the visit.
No official statement has been issued by the Telangana Government or the Chief Minister’s Office regarding the reported decision.
