New Delhi | January 1: The cost of commercial LPG cylinders has been increased from January 1, 2026, adding to the operational expenses of hotels, restaurants, caterers, and other commercial users at the beginning of the new year. Following the latest revision, the retail price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi now stands at ₹1,691.50. The hike is expected to impact the food service sector and small businesses, where fuel costs form a significant portion of daily expenditure.

Along with the commercial LPG hike, oil companies have also increased the price of 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders by ₹27, effective January 1. These cylinders are typically used by small eateries, roadside vendors, and certain commercial users, further adding to their cost burden.

In contrast, domestic LPG consumers have been spared any increase. The price of the 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged, ensuring stability in household cooking gas expenses and protecting family budgets from inflationary pressure.

Impact on Commercial Sector

The increase in commercial LPG prices is significant for businesses that depend heavily on gas cylinders, particularly hotels, restaurants, bakeries, catering services, and small food outlets. With fuel being a major operational cost, industry stakeholders may face margin pressures or be forced to consider passing on part of the burden to consumers.

Government Support to Stabilise LPG Prices

In August last year, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted the Centre’s efforts to keep domestic LPG prices stable. The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a compensation package of ₹30,000 crore to oil marketing companies, to be paid in 12 instalments. This measure was aimed at offsetting losses incurred due to global price volatility and ensuring affordable LPG for domestic consumers.

The government’s intervention has helped maintain price stability for household LPG despite fluctuations in international energy markets.
