Commodore Sujay Kapoor Assumes Charge As BDL Director

Hyderabad: Commodore Sujay Kapoor (Retd) has assumed charge as Director (Production) of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), a premier Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The appointment marks a key leadership transition in the defence manufacturing organisation.

Before joining BDL, Commodore Sujay Kapoor served as Commodore (Armament Production and Indigenisation) at Naval Headquarters in New Delhi. He brings more than three decades of experience in the Indian Navy. He is a Mechanical Engineer and also holds an MBA, an MSc and an M Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies.

During his naval career, Commodore Kapoor played an instrumental role in the indigenisation of several critical defence systems. These include anti submarine rockets along with highly complex fuzes and their launchers. He also worked on anti missile defence rockets and their launchers. In addition, he contributed to the development of critical missile and torpedo explosives including Safety and Arming Mechanisms and Fuzes.

Meanwhile, his work also covered Torpedo and Missile Electronic components. He also contributed to Torpedo Decoys and their launchers, Naval Mines, and life saving Pyrotechnic stores. In addition, he worked on Aircraft Power Cartridges. These efforts were carried out in association with Ordnance Factories, Defence Public Sector Undertakings and DRDO laboratories.

Commodore Kapoor also focused on strengthening quality systems in defence production. He successfully implemented robust Quality Management Systems in the supply chain at naval establishments as well as production agencies. These included Ordnance Factories and several MSMEs. As a result, the measures helped strengthen process reliability, compliance and operational readiness.

He is also an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington and the Naval War College in Goa. His professional background combines operational expertise with strategic knowledge. Therefore, his experience helps him understand both field level realities and higher level planning.

With this background, Commodore Sujay Kapoor now takes charge as Director Production at Bharat Dynamics Limited. His experience in indigenisation and defence manufacturing is expected to support the organisation’s production and operational objectives.
