Congress Calls For HM’s Resignation

Congress | Hyderabad, June 24 (Maxim News) The Congress party expressed deep concern over the rising incidents of crime in Telangana State, particularly in Hyderabad, and demanded the resignation of Home Minister Mahmood Ali, holding him responsible for the negligence.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Official Spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin alleged that the BRS Government failed to prioritize crime prevention and apprehension. Instead, they focused more on superficial enhancements such as corporate-style police stations and new vehicles.

Unfortunately, these measures of “Friendly Policing” did not benefit the general public but rather emboldened criminals to commit brazen crimes without the fear of being apprehended.

Syed Nizamuddin highlighted that June 22, 2023, would be remembered as a particularly violent day in Hyderabad’s history, with seven brutal murders occurring in four separate incidents, along with two attempted murders within 15 hours.

These incidents included double murders in Mailardevpally and Tappa Chabutra, individual murders in Chaderghat, Bowenpally, and Narsingi PS limits, and two separate cases of attempted murder in SR Nagar police limits.

Interestingly, Nizamuddin pointed out that while these crimes were taking place, Home Minister Mahmood Ali was inaugurating a police station and celebrating the Spiritual Day at Dargah Yousufain. The Home Minister praised the Telangana Police, hailing them as the best in India, and applauded their approach of “Friendly Policing.”

Moreover, Nizamuddin highlighted that several crime incidents had been reported across Telangana State in the past week.

One such incident involved the murder of a 19-year-old nursing student in Vikarabad. Tragically, this was not the first instance where an innocent girl had fallen victim to the brutality of criminals who displayed no fear of the law.

The Congress leader accused several BRS leaders of being involved in serious crimes, including instances of rape. He mentioned that a brother of ruling BRS councilor K Radha Krishna allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl in the Shanker Nagar areas of Bodhan Mandal in Nizamabad. Additionally, BRS MLA Patnam Narender Reddy faced charges of extortion, wrongful confinement, and assault on a farmer over a land dispute.

The farmer reported being threatened, confined, and assaulted by the MLA and his associates. Another incident involved a Hyderabad-based businessman filing a complaint against five men, including a well-known local criminal associated with BRS leaders, alleging that they kidnapped him and extorted Rs 10 lakh from him.

“Are these cases not clear examples of a failing Law & Order situation? The Home Minister did not even issue a statement regarding these incidents, nor did he meet with the families of the victims,” Nizamuddin stated.

Congress on Mahmood Ali

The TPCC Spokesperson criticized Home Minister Mahmood Ali, stating that he seemed to believe that praising CM KCR was his sole responsibility.

“Despite serving as Deputy CM for four years and nearly completing a five-year term as Home Minister, Mahmood Ali has never demonstrated a sense of accountability,” he remarked.

Referring to the “Status of Policing in India Report 2023,” Nizamuddin mentioned that Hyderabad possessed the highest number of CCTV cameras in the country. However, he questioned the utility of these cameras if the police were unable to prevent crimes.

He highlighted instances where the police utilized CCTV cameras to issue traffic fines but failed to leverage them effectively in preventing crime.

Nizamuddin further brought up the case of Khadeer Khan, who was allegedly wrongfully arrested and tortured by Medak Police using a faulty Facial Recognition Software, resulting in his death at Gandhi Hospital while undergoing treatment.

He criticized both Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao and Home Minister Mahmood Ali for not taking serious action to prevent such custodial deaths in the future.

The Congress leader alleged that the Telangana Police seemed to have neglected their focus on crime prevention, questioning the whereabouts of their network of informers. He claimed that in many murder cases, the accused individuals were known offenders, yet their activities went unnoticed by the police.

Hyderabad Police

“Hyderabad Police appears more preoccupied with organizing BRS programs or impeding the protests of the Congress party. Visible policing is lacking in Hyderabad, and the Special Branch has lost its significance and must be restructured.

The situation will not improve until accountability is established. To initiate this process, Home Minister Mahmood Ali should resign from his post, assuming moral responsibility for the surge in crime incidents,” demanded Nizamuddin.

Syed Nizamuddin also called for the establishment of fast-track courts to expedite the trials of all murder cases and other heinous crimes, including rapes, reported in the recent past.
