Nalgonda: TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday urged State government to set up COVID hospital at all district headquarters in view of the spurt in number of corona positive cases.
Speaking at a media conference in his camp office at Nalgonda, Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged there was only one COVID hospital in Hyderabad for four crore people of the State. The Centre imposed lockdown to give time for development of medical infrastructure to face the pandemic, but the State government failed to utilize it for the purpose, he alleged, adding that except for turning Gandhi Hospital into a COVID hospital, the State government had done nothing to extend treatment to corona patients.
Referring to the statements made by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on COVID-19 pandemic, he said the Chief Minister was satirical against Congress leaders when they requested the government to create awareness among the public about wearing masks for protection from the virus. He found fault in the strategy adopted by the State government in tackling the pandemic. The number of testing was very low in Telangana compared to other states as 1,000 tests were conducted per 10 lakh people as against the national average of 4,000 tests per 10 lakh people.
He said the State government should also extend Rs 50 lakh ex-gratia to families of corona warriors who lost their lives due to the infection. In addition to the medical staff, police and journalists should also be considered as corona warriors by the government, he said, and urged the district administration to spend the revenue generated from mineral deposits for development of infrastructure in hospitals in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts in view of the pandemic.
