Congress to field Palvai Sravanthi from Munugodu

Hyderabad, Sept.9 (NSS): The Congress party has decided to field Congress leader Palvai Sravanthi, daughter of former Rajya Sabha MP and former minister Palvai Govardhan Reddy, as the party candidate from Munugodu Assembly constituency in the upcoming by-elections.

The TPCC officially announced the name of Sravanthi from the constituency. It had forwarded the names of four persons to the AICC and urged it to select party candidates for the constituency. The names of the four persons are Palvai Sravanthi, Krishna Reddy, Palle Ravi Kumar, and Kailas Neta. The party’s high command favored the name of Srvanthi from the Munugodu constituency in the by-elections.

Sravanthi topped the survey conducted by the party to select the party candidate. She contested as the Congress candidate from the same constituency in the 2014 Assembly elections and faced a defeat. She dropped out of the ticket race voluntarily in the 2018 Assembly elections after the former MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy desired to contest the elections from the same seat. She worked for the victory of Rajagopal Reddy in the elections and ensured his victory.

The loyalty of Sravanthi to the party also helped in her favor in the announcement of her candidature from the constituency. With the declaration of the name of Sravanthi by the Congress party, the names of the two-party candidates have come to the fore. Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy is already contesting as the party candidate of BJP. The ruling TRS party has not yet declared the name of its candidate so far. The party president and the CM KCR adopted a cautious approach to the issue. He is expected to declare the name of the party candidate in a day or two. (NSS)
