Speaking at a press conference after conducting a review meeting with senior party leaders on Saturday, Waliullah Sameer emphasized the significant impact of his election campaign over the past 16 days. He remarked, “Throughout the last two weeks, we have organized public meetings, conducted door-to-door campaigns, held bike rallies, and staged roadshows across the Hyderabad constituency.
However, our most crucial effort was the silent man-to-man connect campaign, wherein Congress leaders and workers personally engaged with prominent individuals in all areas, elucidating the Congress party’s agenda. Our aim was not merely to dazzle the people’s eyes with symbolic rallies and roadshows but to touch their hearts through one-on-one interactions.”

Waliullah Sameer disclosed that the people of Hyderabad were living in a state of fear and yearning for change. He stated, “Residents of the Old City have acknowledged that misguided political leadership is the cause of their backwardness.
However, the MIM and BJP have fostered an atmosphere where people feel compelled to align with these political entities. If you are Muslim, you’re expected to support MIM; if you’re Hindu, you’re expected to side with the BJP.

Those not supporting these parties face intimidation and harassment from local leaders and their associates. The Congress party seeks to reverse this trend. Now, people can choose development over communal and divisive politics.”
The Congress candidate highlighted that a majority of Old City residents expressed concern over the negative portrayal of ‘Purana Shaher’ (Old City). He noted that being a resident of the Old City disqualified individuals from obtaining personal or business loans, as banks and financial institutions were unwilling to extend credit.

Consequently, residents were forced to resort to private money lenders who imposed exorbitant monthly interest rates ranging from 10% to 15%. Sameer pledged to petition Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to introduce a micro-financing scheme through a government department for the impoverished residents of the Old City.
He illustrated the plight of poor vendors, such as those selling small items like safety pins on Charminar Road, who borrow Rs 1,000 daily from private money lenders, only to receive Rs 900 in the morning and repay Rs 1,000 at night, with a 10% daily fine for defaults.

Similarly, auto-rickshaw drivers who pledge their vehicles for small loans often lose them due to payment delays or defaults, trapped in a cycle of escalating interest rates. He lamented that despite winning elections in the Old City since 1962, the MIM had failed to address these issues. In contrast, upon securing the Hyderabad seat, the Congress party pledged to eradicate this exploitation.
Moreover, Waliullah Sameer noted that thousands of families had temporarily relocated to the new city for matrimonial purposes, as no one was willing to marry their children within the Old City. Consequently, families shifted temporarily to areas like Tolichowki in search of suitable matches for their children, resulting in a detrimental stigma attached to the Old City. Upon being elected as MP, he affirmed that his foremost priority would be to enhance the reputation of ‘Purana Shaher’, urging people to respect this historic region, which has preserved its heritage, culture, and history for over 400 years.

Waliullah Sameer outlined a list of 20 significant promises to the voters, which he pledged to fulfill over the next five years. These commitments include providing jobs to 5,000 youth, offering subsidized loans to 50,000 unemployed youth, establishing a super-specialty hospital, and establishing an international school. Additionally, he vowed to advocate for a special development package of Rs 5,000 crore for the Old City, including Rs 500 crore for the renovation of Osmania General Hospital.
Encouraging the residents of the Old City to seize the opportunity to transform their lives and secure a better future for their children, Sameer urged them to vote for the Congress party. He attributed the MIM and BJP’s discussions on development to the influence of the Congress campaign, claiming success in diluting their communal agenda. If elected as MP, he pledged to eliminate communal and divisive politics from the Old City of Hyderabad.
