The case (FIR No. 1948/2025) was registered under Sections 353(2), 352 and 336(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Cybercrime Police Station, Basheerbagh, following a complaint by TPCC spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin. In his written complaint, Nizamuddin stated that certain social media accounts were circulating fake news clippings falsely attributing remarks to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and other Congress leaders with the intent to mislead voters and create communal misunderstanding.

According to the FIR, the fabricated clippings were shared widely across Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) through multiple accounts and groups. The complaint cautioned that such false content could mislead youth, fuel suspicion among communities, and trigger law-and-order issues if not addressed promptly.

The creation and circulation of fabricated clippings during elections is a serious offence. Such acts not only mislead voters but also endanger communal harmony. The Congress party will not tolerate these malicious campaigns,” he said.

He urged citizens to verify the authenticity of political material before sharing it and to report misleading content to authorities.

These fake clippings are meant to divide communities and damage public trust. We appeal to everyone to maintain peace and not fall prey to misinformation,” Nizamuddin added.

The TPCC spokesperson asserted that Congress candidate Naveen Yadav would win the Jubilee Hills seat with a thumping majority. He alleged that BRS leaders were resorting to fake news to mislead voters due to their declining popularity. However, he said the Congress party was keeping a close watch on such illegal activities and that stern action would be taken to curb them. (Maxim News)
