Coordinated work should be done to increase the image of Hyderabad: Ponnam

*Hyderabad, February 07:* Hyderabad district in-charge minister Varyulu Ponnam Prabhakar said that it will be possible only if the government, public representatives and officials move ahead in coordination so that the image of Hyderabad can be further enhanced in the world. On Wednesday, GHMC was reviewed with the mayor, commissioner, officers of respective departments and zonal commissioner at the GHMC head office.

Speaking on this occasion, the Minister directed the officials of Metro Water Works to prepare advance plan from now without drinking water shortage in the coming summer season in GHMC in Hyderabad, the capital of the state. In the background of allegations that the opposition will face water crisis in Hyderabad in the coming days, the authorities should explain to the people at the zonal level that there will be no drinking water problem. Minister explained that drinking water is given priority in the irrigation project. The officials were ordered to ensure that there is no drinking water problem in the coming summer under any circumstances. Day-to-day sanitation and permanent infrastructure for drinking water shortages for disaster-proof permanent solutions were reviewed today.

He said that in the context of the state chief minister’s efforts to improve the image of Hyderabad, the municipal department is looking at it. He said that the government is positive for the development of GHMC. He said that measures will be taken without any hindrance to the development of Musi river. Hyderabad’s brand image will go ahead without any problem. He said that he is thinking of taking central cooperation for the development of towns in the state and will be integrated with the center in the development. Officials in GHMC are advised to be vigilant in solving problems. The officials were directed to make arrangements for other festival programs in summer without drinking water problems.

They want to go ahead with planning on solid waste management in the future. They want to prepare the necessary plan for development. Funding will be done only for incomplete development works, he said. 40 to 50 thousand crore bills are pending in the state. He said that the previous government had given proceedings for works worth 1 lakh 90 thousand crores. The minister said that officials are saying that 2 thousand crores are required for the project works in GHMC.

GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose explained the work being done in GHMC to the minister through a department wise power point presentation. It was explained that measures have been taken to prevent flooding in the city during the coming monsoon season. He said that the development of canals in the urban area around the canal works has been done under GHMC by SNDP. The commissioner explained to the minister that the work has been completed in other areas except the court case areas.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the state chief minister has allocated 10 crore rupees to the district in-charge ministers to solve the problems of the districts and the officials can also inform them to complete the urgent works. For the development of the city, the mayor, deputy mayor, members of the governing body, corporators, public representatives and officials will work for development in coordination. Steps will be taken to pay the salaries of the state government employees as well as the GHMC employees from 1st to 5th of every month. The minister explained that an OSD will be appointed specifically to address the GHMC issues.

Metro Water Works MD Sudarshan Reddy briefed the Minister on the measures taken for the development of sewerage in the city. He explained that while there were 25 STPs for sewerage development in the past, another 31 STPs were under construction and 5 of them were completed. He said that Hyderabad is known as the city with 40 percent sanitation in the country. He said that there will be no problem in the development of Musi river due to the sewage treatment STPs.

In this meeting, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi thanked the Minister for his assurance that necessary steps will be taken for the development of GHMC. He said that in the coming days, the government will cooperate in all ways to enhance the image of Hyderabad. Officials also want to prepare proposals for the development of the city.
