India’s records 40,000 coronavirus cases along with 681 deaths in the last 24 hours. According to Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare.
There are 3,90,459 active cases in the country, as of now more than seven lakh people have recovered and discharged after contracting Covid-19.
Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in India with 1,29,032 active cases and over 11,800 deaths. In terms of death toll, Delhi is at second spot with 3,628 cases. Recently, the national capital has witnessed a significant drop in cases. It currently has over 16,000 active cases. Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a sharp spike in daily cases, it has over 18,000 active cases.
While cases seem to be declining in urban areas, rural India is witnessed in a bigger spike in cases. Experts fear that cases could blow out of proportion across rural India due to lack of healthcare infrastructure.
Even though India’s fatality and recovery rate are improving, experts fear that cases could keep rising for a longer period if strict social distancing norms are not followed. Many experts have also said that India could see its peak by mid-September if all restrictions and physical distancing norms are followed.
