These units are ready to begin services within the next 15 days, according to health department preparations. The initiative aims to improve emergency and life saving treatment at the district level itself.

The Critical Care Units in Telangana have been set up in government hospitals located in Wanaparthy, Kamareddy, Jagtial, Jangaon, Vikarabad, Godavarikhani, Asifabad, Kothagudem and Adilabad.

Each block has a capacity of 50 beds. The units function under the jurisdiction of nine government medical colleges, which strengthens both patient care and medical training facilities.

Officials said the project focuses on reducing delays in emergency treatment. Until now, many critical patients had to be shifted to Hyderabad or other major cities.

However, the launch of Critical Care Units in Telangana will now allow advanced treatment closer to patients’ homes. As a result, survival chances during emergencies are expected to rise.

Critical Care Units | Golden hour care gets a major boost

Medical experts stress that the first hour after a road accident, heart attack, stroke, sepsis or pregnancy related emergency is crucial. This golden hour often decides survival. With Critical Care Units in Telangana becoming operational, district hospitals can now offer immediate and quality care during this critical period.

Each critical care block includes 10 ICU beds, six HDU beds, 24 isolation beds and four emergency beds. In addition, two special isolation rooms are available in every unit.

Infection control measures include negative pressure ventilation and separate entry routes for patients.

The units also feature two modular operation theatres, two labour delivery recovery rooms and two dialysis beds.

Separate laboratories and independent oxygen supply systems further strengthen medical readiness. These facilities ensure that district hospitals can handle complex emergencies without delay.

Health officials said the units will reduce dependence on costly private hospitals. Therefore, poor and middle class families will face less financial pressure during emergencies. At the same time, public confidence in government healthcare services is expected to improve.
