Hyderabad: Critical Minerals Pact discussions between the United States and India are nearing completion, according to US Ambassador Sergio Gor. He said the two countries are moving closer to signing a key agreement that could strengthen strategic cooperation and supply chains.

Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2026 on Friday, Gor said the growing engagement between the two nations reflects a deeper partnership. He noted that the relationship now goes beyond traditional trade ties.

Gor said the United States and India are paying close attention to each other as their partnership expands. He described the relationship as one that continues to grow stronger through deeper cooperation.

“The US and India are paying close attention to each other, which reflects something deeper — a partnership that is continuing to grow stronger,” Gor said. He added that the ties are entering a new phase of strategic collaboration.

His remarks came days after the two countries agreed on a framework for a Bilateral Trade Agreement aimed at expanding economic cooperation. Meanwhile, Gor said the partnership is not limited to tariffs or market access.

“This partnership is not just about tariffs or market access, but also about securing resources and supply chains that will define the global economy of the future,” he said.

Critical minerals supply chains key to economic growth

The Ambassador stressed that critical minerals have become a major focus area for cooperation between the two countries. He explained that strong supply chains for these resources are important for both economic growth and national security.

“One of the most important areas of cooperation between our countries is critical minerals. Reliable and diversified supply chains for critical minerals are indispensable to both economic growth and national security,” Gor said.

He added that the United States and India are close to finalising the agreement. According to him, the pact will help secure supply chains needed for advanced manufacturing, energy systems and emerging technologies.

“Within the next few months, there will be a big announcement on this front,” he said.

Gor also pointed to growing cooperation in high technology sectors. He referred to recent developments in India’s semiconductor industry and noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently inaugurated new facilities and celebrated progress in the sector.

“The US is also a reliable supplier of LNG, and we are ready to help support India’s growing energy needs in the years ahead,” he said.

During his remarks, the Ambassador also mentioned the latest cover of India Today magazine featuring President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the cover attracted attention from the White House.

“I took a picture of the cover and sent it to President Trump, and he posted it on Truth Social,” he added.
