Crop Loss At A High Amount In Telangana Due To The Cyclone Michaung

Hyderabad, Dec 7 (Maxim News): With the heavy rains that fell on Tuesday and Wednesday under the influence of Cyclone Michaung in the state of Telangana, crops in 4.72 lakh acres were submerged in water, causing huge loss to rice farmers.

Khammam Reels under Massive Crop Loss :

Combined Khammam district has been hit by rains.  The agriculture department has estimated that around one lakh acres have been damaged in that district.

Due to the rains on Wednesday, paddy was damaged in Kusumanchi, Nelakondapally, Wyra, Enkur, Julurupadu, Sathupalli, Penuballi, Tallada, Velchuru, Aswaraopeta, Dammapeta, Illendu, Tekulapally and other mandals.  Cotton and chilli crops were damaged in Chintakani, Mudigonda, Waira, Kothagudem, Lakshmi Devi Palli and Sujatha Nagar.  in 12 Mandals of Warangal district, four in Mulugu district, three in  Bhupalpally, four in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, 60 mandals in Karimnagar, Peddapalli and Manchiryala districts, paddy fields were damaged.  Cotton, chilli and maize crops were damaged.  In many areas, the harvested paddy along with the grain in the fields is wet.  In some places, the grain was washed away in the flood water. According to their estimates 82,180 acres belonging to 53,903 farmers in Khammam district have been damaged, 58,307 acres of paddy, 17,267 acres of cotton, 17,207 acres of chilli and 5,252 acres of maize were damaged.

Kothagudem and Other Districts Not Spared:

In Kothagudem district, 13,606 acres of crops belonging to 7,450 farmers were damaged.  Paddy 8,816, chilli, 2475, groundnut 1602, maize 585 and cotton 130 acres were damaged.  

29,923 acres in Mahabubabad district, 20,391 acres in Warangal, 19282 acres in Hanamkonda, 18,920 acres in Mulugu and 18,321 acres in Bhupalpally.

Farmers Demand Urgent Support:

In Raghavapuram and Venkatapuram villages of Mudigonda mandal of Khammam district, the farmers came to the officials who went to check the crop damage and showed the soiled chillies and soaked cotton crops and burst into tears.  T. Sagar, general secretary of the Telangana State Rythu Sangam, in a statement requested to pay compensation to the farmers who lost due to rains.  (Maxim News)
