Cyberabad Police Bust QR Code Payment Scam by Isthara Parks Employees

Hyderabad, June 1: The Cyberabad Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Police arrested two employees of Isthara Parks Private Limited for allegedly diverting customer payments through a QR code scam.

Mandala Raj Kumar, Floor Manager, Isthara Parks Pvt. Ltd., Secunderabad, has been arrested. 

The Crime: The complaint, filed by Mohammed Irshad Hussain, an authorized representative of Isthara Parks, alleged that company employees at various locations created and placed fake QR codes resembling the company’s legitimate codes. These fraudulent codes diverted customer payments meant for Isthara Parks to the personal accounts of the accused. The total loss incurred by the company is estimated at ₹4,15,00,000.

Modus Operandi: Yasireddy Anil Kumar, a floor manager since March 2023, allegedly created fake QR codes resembling the company’s “ISTHARA” code. He placed these at Isthara Parks food court outlets in Hyderabad, redirecting customer payments to his own accounts under the names “Istharaa” and “Istha.” He reportedly confessed to embezzling ₹2 crore, using the money for personal expenses, debt repayment, land purchase, and payouts to associates who aided the crime. Mandala Raj Kumar, his associate, allegedly received ₹10 lakh from the diverted funds and used it for personal expenses.

Public Appeal: The Cyberabad EOW Police urge companies to strengthen internal audits, financial monitoring, and CCTV surveillance at workplaces to prevent similar scams. They are committed to pursuing justice for defrauded companies and holding such employees accountable.

Investigation: The case is being investigated by Inspector A. Sreedhar Kumar under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Prasad, both of the Cyberabad EOW Police Station.
