Grammy Award | Hyderabad, Feb. 2: The world-renowned Buddhist and Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, has achieved a historic milestone by winning a Grammy Award.
Lama surprised fans across the globe by emerging as a Grammy winner at the age of 90.
The Dalai Lama won the award at the 68th Grammy Awards pre-ceremony, held on February 1. He received the honour for his audiobook titled “Meditations: The Reflections Of His Holiness The Dalai Lama.”
The project won in the category of Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling.
With this achievement, the Dalai Lama joined the elite list of Grammy winners, standing alongside legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who also won his first Grammy at an advanced age.

Renowned musician Rufus Wainwright accepted the Grammy on behalf of the Dalai Lama. Speaking on stage during the ceremony, which streamed live on YouTube, Wainwright said he felt deeply honoured to be part of the project. He added that the Dalai Lama’s wisdom gave life to the work.
Strong Competition in the Category
The Dalai Lama faced tough competition in this category. Nominees included Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli fame, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, and Grammy host Trevor Noah.
The album features music influenced by Hindustani classical traditions. Moreover, the Dalai Lama’s reflections on mindfulness, harmony, and health stood out as key highlights.
Popular artists such as Maggie Rogers and Andrea Day also contributed to the project.
Overall, this Grammy win marks a rare global recognition of a project that beautifully blends spirituality, music, and storytelling.
