DCA Continues Its Raids On Quacks In Telangana

Hyderabad, Nov 20 (Maxim News): The drug inspectors of Telangana State Drug Control Administration (TSDCA) conducted raids on the premises of three individuals who were illegally practicing allopathy medicine (quacks), without proper MBBS qualifications.

The TSDCA raided the premises of Md Gulam Rasool, Chowdarpally village, Gandeed mandal, Mahabubnagar district, which had illegally stocked 49 varieties of medicines and was practicing medicine without qualification.  The DCA officials also raided the premises of another quack Mohammed Khaja Moinuddin at Sugur village, Pebbair mandal, Wanaparthy district, and seized 38 varieties of medicines that were illegally stocked for sale. 

The premises of yet another quack Inapanuri Jeevaratnam (alias Jeevankumar), who was illegally operating a health care facility at Adarsarlapadu, Vemsoor mandal, Khammam district, and seized 28 varieties of drugs.

According to DCA, several higher generation antibiotics including Norfloxacin, Cefixime, etc, and steroids viz. Dexamethasone, Prednisolone, and other expensive drugs for various chronic diseases worth Rs. 99,650 were seized from the illegal facilities that were operated by the three quacks. 

In a separate development, the TSDCA conducted raids at unlicensed premises being operated by one Nimmani Kotaiah in Thanamcherla village, Mahabubabad district, who was stocking in an array of veterinary drugs for illegal sale.

Kotaiah was selling veterinary drugs out of his residence illegally without the required TSDCA permissions.  A total of 72 varieties of veterinary medicines including 58 physician’s samples, 10 salable drugs, I expired drug, and 3 drugs for institutional supply, all worth Rs. 53,691, were seized. 

The TSDCA issues drug licenses for the stocking and selling of medicines in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.  Stocking drugs for sale without a drug licence is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment for upto five years, DG, DCA, V B Kamalsan Reddy said.  (Maxim News)
