A key development has emerged in the investigation of the Delhi car blast near the Red Fort Metro Station that killed nine people and seriously injured 20 others. Authorities have arrested the mother and two brothers of the suspected suicide bomber, Dr. Umar Mohammed, in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. Reports reveal that last week, Umar told his mother, “No one should contact me, I am studying in the library,” before switching off his phone. Since then, his whereabouts were unknown. Police disclosed that Umar was connected to two previously arrested doctors—Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather and Dr. Muzammil Shakeel—who were detained on Monday in a terror module case involving 3,000 kg of explosives seized in Faridabad. Following Dr. Rather’s information, police began searching for Umar, believing he fled in fear after their associates’ arrests and planned a new attack.

Investigation so far indicates that Umar and his associates planted an explosive device in the car using ammonium nitrate, fuel oil, and detonators. Delhi Police suspect the blast was a suicide attack based on initial findings. In response, Union Home Minister Amit Shah scheduled an emergency meeting on Tuesday with senior officials, including Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, and Delhi Police leaders, to discuss the incident. A case has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act, and searches continue in various capital areas.

Following the blast, a high alert remains in place in Delhi. Security checks have intensified at airports, railway stations, and bus terminals. Authorities have temporarily closed the Lal Qila Metro Station and stopped vehicular movement around Netaji Subhash Marg. The police urge the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities immediately.
