Dense fog impact on flights disrupts Hyderabad services
Dense fog | Hyderabad, Dec. 30: Dense fog conditions in North India have severely disrupted flight operations connected to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, forcing multiple cancellations and delays on key routes, including Hyderabad to Delhi.
Low visibility, especially over Delhi, dropped to nearly 50 metres, which led major airlines such as IndiGo and Air India to cancel hundreds of flights.
As a result, several departures and arrivals linked to Hyderabad airport were either cancelled or rescheduled. Routes to Delhi, Chandigarh, and other northern cities faced the maximum impact during the disruption.
According to airline officials, the situation worsened early Monday morning. In Delhi alone, authorities cancelled 128 flights, while more than 200 services faced significant delays.
Several of these affected flights had direct connectivity with Hyderabad, causing inconvenience to passengers at Shamshabad airport.
Dense fog impact on flights continues across key routes
IndiGo accounted for the highest number of cancellations. The airline alone cancelled nearly 80 flights across the network. These included services connecting Hyderabad with Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Amritsar, and Chandigarh.
Air India and other carriers also reduced operations due to unsafe landing conditions caused by dense fog.
Airport officials stated that flight operations at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport remained smooth locally. However, inbound and outbound services depended on weather conditions at destination airports. Therefore, flights scheduled to land or depart from fog affected cities faced unavoidable disruptions.
Airlines issued advisories warning that dense fog impact on flights may continue through December 30. Weather forecasts indicate that visibility levels in North India may remain poor during early morning hours. Hence, airlines have planned staggered operations and additional ground time to manage safety protocols.
Passengers were advised to check flight status through official airline websites or mobile applications before heading to the airport.
Airlines confirmed that rescheduling and refund options remain available for affected travellers. Moreover, customer support teams have been deployed to assist passengers with alternative travel arrangements.
Winter fog regularly disrupts flight
Aviation experts explained that winter fog regularly disrupts flight schedules in northern India. However, they added that advanced landing systems and crew preparedness help minimise risks. Still, safety protocols require cancellations when visibility falls below prescribed limits.
Meanwhile, airport authorities urged passengers to arrive early and remain alert to updates. They also requested cooperation, as airlines prioritise passenger safety during adverse weather conditions.
The dense fog impact on flights has once again highlighted the seasonal challenges faced by air travel in India. Until visibility improves, disruptions are expected to continue across major northern hubs, affecting connecting airports like Hyderabad.
