- Donkey farming scheme offers subsidy for breeding farms
Hyderabad: Donkey farming scheme under the National Livestock Mission is inviting farmers, business enthusiasts and associations to start breeding farms. The central government has encouraged people to take up donkey farming and expand livestock businesses through financial assistance.
According to the government, interested individuals can also raise horses and camels along with donkeys. The initiative aims to promote livestock farming and help entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses in the sector.
The government announced that farmers and entrepreneurs can receive financial support under the National Livestock Mission. Under this scheme, individuals, farmer groups, self help groups and cooperatives are eligible to apply for loans. These loans can help them establish breeding farms for donkeys, horses and camels.
Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Dairying issued guidelines explaining the support provided under the scheme. According to the guidelines, applicants can receive a subsidised loan of up to Rs. 50 lakh. The government will provide a subsidy of 50 percent on the loan amount.
Officials said the subsidy will apply up to a maximum limit of Rs. 50 lakh. The financial support is intended to encourage new entrepreneurs and farmers to invest in livestock breeding and expand agricultural income opportunities.
The scheme also outlines requirements for setting up donkey breeding farms. According to the guidelines, a donkey breeding centre must maintain a minimum number of animals to qualify under the programme. The facility must include at least 50 female donkeys and five male donkeys.
The guidelines also specify that only indigenous breeds should be raised in the breeding centres. This requirement aims to promote and preserve native livestock breeds in the country.
Meanwhile, the initiative is part of broader efforts by the government to strengthen the livestock sector. By encouraging farmers and entrepreneurs to invest in breeding farms, the scheme seeks to expand livestock production and generate additional income opportunities.
The programme also encourages farmer groups, self help groups and cooperatives to participate. These groups can apply together to establish breeding farms and benefit from the subsidy offered under the scheme.
Officials believe such initiatives can help diversify rural livelihoods. Farmers who already depend on agriculture can add livestock farming to their activities. Entrepreneurs can also build new ventures focused on breeding and livestock management.
Therefore, the donkey farming scheme under the National Livestock Mission highlights the government’s effort to support livestock entrepreneurship. By offering loans and subsidies, the programme aims to encourage farmers and business enthusiasts to invest in donkey, horse and camel breeding farms.
